(From Our Own Correspondent).. • / The event .of the week has been , the concert in-aid of the Presbyterian? r ' Church fundi;; It took'place' at tbV-, Town Hall on the 20th iiist., and ~ proved a most enjoyable affair. I am now pleased:;?, to state'that this desirable institution: has been undertaken by private.enterpriso iii the person of Mr G. Paine, our enterprising townsman;- to whom undoubtedly, the thanks of the; residents are due. The first event on the progi'amme was a piano duet by Mr and Mrs W. Martin, which was' excellently rendered and well received. Song by Mrs Petrie, a stranger to a Martinborougb audience. She, however, mado a most favorable impression. _ Trio by Messrs J. VV. and A; Martin, Eendered with much spirit' ami well received. Song by Miss T. Hodge. Song by Mr W, Martin which was warmly applauded, and;to : which he bowed his Song by Miss Tocker, Of Feather®, This youug lady is always a 'favoTO - with any audience, and this instance was no exception. An encore was demanded to which sho kindly responded. Song, Capt. Cato, 'feMr Cameron. His liumorons soiiipand original stylo delighted everybody. Of .course au encore was demanded and kindly responded to. After these most amusing songs (which alone would have been good 7alue for the . money) there was an interval of ten minutes. Events on second part of : programme. Song by Mr Black, Greytown. This gentlemen is always : a favourite and was well received and.: kindly responded to an cnthuaiastio encore. Mrs J. Hume, song, (Mayourueen), This lady is also another
favourite at concerts, and is always most willing to contribute her assist*" ance to any charitable or other entertainment, Trio by' Messrs Martin. These gentlemen are well kiiowii as'a ■ musical family, and like the first trio by them was much appreciated. Song (Silver Rhine), Miss A. Hodge. Re--: ceived an encore to which she .responded. Song by.Mr J. was in good voice and his sfljhs capitally rendered, and was«tfld • with an enthusiastic encore t<fWiioh he responded, Song by Mr Black. This like the first was well received and merited the encore it received. Duet by Mr and. Mrs. Martin. This like"their first one 'was' a musical treat,-and was much appreciated, . Song by Mrs Petrie which received an encore to which she pleasingly,' responded. Song (Coming through tho Ryo) Mrs Hume. This like the. others merited the encore it received. Song (The Major) Mr Cameron. He' - , was greeted with araptuous encore,and kindly responded with the Bong, "I'm sonietliing in the city". This concluded, a most enjoyable concert, and the audience retired to their homes delighted with their evenings amusement. Mr and Mrs W. Martin kindly played most of the accompanyinents.
