annual official return has recuixtly been published of land in cultivation and agricultural produce of this colony, according to the results of the collection made in February last. Following are the particulars of the principal grain crops, with comparison of the estimates for the preceding year:
It will be seen that, as compared with the season of 1887, wheat shows an increase of 1(M,88-1 acres in the breadth under crop, while the area under oats is less by 50,751 acres. Barley shows an increase of 0,377 acres. The aggregate area under the three descriptions of grain is thus larger by about 00,000 acres than it \yas in the harvest [of the preceding yoitr, and, ii] fact, exceeds that of any year since 1883. Potatoes, with 25.3H8 acres in crop, give an estimated yield of 138,000 tons a decrease of 2,345 acres, but an increase of 3,095 tons in the rosult, In turnips and rape there were 313,293 acres, against 1)18,(Job. Tho quantities of grain of last year's crop remaining' on hand at the time of filling up tho returns were as follows:—'Wheat, 121,108 bushels, against 20,000 bushels the year before; increase, 101,198. Oats, 241,000 bushels against 288,782; increase, 5,878 bushels. Barley, 9,059 bushels, against •15,850; decrease, 32,791 bushels.
