PRESENTATION.
Mn Joseph Williams of this town lias for many years past, unsolicited, taken upon himself the duty of drill instructor to the Fernridge School. His exertions in this direction have been fully appreciated not only by the School Inspector, Mr Lee, but also bv the master and the scholars themselves. Yesterday Mr Williams, on visiting the school as usual to put the boys through their drill, was agreeably surprised with a presentation by Master Alfred Anketell on behalf of the Fernridge cadets of a handsome silver-mounted buckhoni-handle riding whip accompanied by the following address

To Mr Joseph Williams,
_ "Dear Sir,-We, boys of theFernridge School, beg to offer you our most hearty thanks for the time and attention which you have bestowed upon our school-drill for a long time past, and we beg you to be so kind as to accept the accompanying gift, which we only regret is not more valuable, as a slight but sincere token of our esteem and thanks. Your grateful pupils,—Alf. Anketell, Amo Anketoll, Arthur Wilton, Thomas MoKenzie, John Harp, W. ICaraitiana, Donald MaoKenzie, James McGregor, Ernest Osborne, William Allen, Hubert Harrison, George Devenport, Drummoud McMaster, Osborne Harp, Donald Chamberlain, Thomas Chamberlain, Alf. Chamberlain, Leonard Moore, H. Chamberlain." Mr Williams thanked tho cadets in suitable terms for their handsome present, and more espeoially for the kind address which accompanied it. The proficienoy they had arrived at fully satisfied him that his services wero appreciated, and it was to him a task of pleasure. It had given him great pleasure to find that Inspector Lee liatl given them oredit for their smart appoaranoe, and the creditable manner in which they had gone through their drill He hoped when the Russians paid New Zealand a visit, they would give a good account of themselves.
