Wairarapa Gun Club.

The gun club spent a very pleasant afternoon's sliootiiig at- Mr Monckton's estate at Featherston on Saturday, and some good shooting resulted in the first match, which was a live-bird one, and for a silver cup. Thero were seven entries, na'ncly Mr P. ]?. Tailored, W. E. Bidwill, C. Ridwill.T, Grace, R Grace, W. Still, and J. 0. Bidwill. Mr Tailored having shot all his birds was the winner of the cup, which is a very handsome sportsmen's cup suitably engraved. The second scorer in this match was Mr W. Bidwill who only missed one bird, and Mr C. Bidwill third, he having missed two. Messrs N. Grace T. Grace, with two birds, and J. 0. Bidwill, with one bird retired at the fourth shot.

The second match was won by Mr T. Grace. Messrs N. Grace, W. Still, C. Bidwill, and W. Bidwill also competed, The third match was won by Mr G, Bidwill, who shot all his birds. Messrs W. Still, N. Grace, and W.E, Bidwill also entered. The gluss ball match was won by Mr P. F. Tancred; ho hit I all his glass balls (live) and it was an excellent display of shooting. Mr C. Bidwill, who was second, also shot well There were a good number of onlookers upon the ground, and all appeared to well enjoy the sport. Among the spectators were several ladies who took much interest in the shooting, and at the conclusion of the meeting the Secretary, Mr G. Higgins, thanked Mr Monckton on behalf of the members of the Club, for his kindness irt placing bis land at the disposal of the members for the occasion, and expressed the pleasure they felt at having such an excellent site for their purpose. An exhibition was mado of a patent pigeon flight, which is a very good imitation of the llight ot live pigeons, but as time and daylight would not admit, the shooting at this contrivance was adjourned until a future meeting. The OVatherston meeting was certainly most successful as regards attendance, although several of the good shots, including Mr W. 0. Buchanan, M H.R., were unavoidably absent, At the next committee meeting, Mr J, Bidwill will have quite a list of new members to propose.—Standard.
