Wellington v England,
A Drawn Game,
Saturday's match, England v Wellington, resulted in a draw, both sides having scored three points. The Englishmen's style of play was the subject of a good deal of unfavorable comment in one respect, viz,, that of taking advantage of anything to be gained' by off-side play and other similar tacfc, To-day's Match with EnglandWellington, Monday, The weather is drizzling and the grouud will be very soft tor the match this afternoon. The local team is nearly as good as on Saturday. The English team is: Paul, back; Haslam, Speakinan, Brooks, three-quarters; Nolan, Anderton, halves; Seddon, Eagles, Thomson, Mathias, Williams, Pinketh, Burnett, Kent, Lane, forwards. The majority of the men bear signs of Saturday's play in the shape of black eyes and bruised limbs, They complain bitterly of the report in the morning paper, which attributes all the roughest play to them. They say Wellington played the roughest game they have yet had. ' Ten thousand paid for admission on Saturday.
The match combined Wairarapa and Wellington versus England has fallen through. A Management Committee consisting of the following gentlemen was appointed to arrange a game : Messrs Kilner, Connail, A. Cooper, Davy, Wickerson, McCardell, and llirschberg (Secretary). Messrs G. Campbell, A. Cooper, and E, Davy were appointed a Selection Committee, and at onco proceeded to their labors. In about half-an-liour the teani was posted up as follows Full-back, Sim, threequarters, Gage, Thompson, and Fairbrother; halves, Moore, Poberts; forwards, Cookcroft, Crowell, Hyland McLeary, Ellison Slorev, Mclntre, Moore, and Whatman.
