Wellington, May 14, Zealandia, with English mails up to date 21st April, left Frisco for Auckland on sth inst., two days late. s,s. Alameda, with Colonial mails to 23rd April, arrived at Frisco from Auckland on 12th inst, one day early.
Petroleum. Gisborne, Monday. At a meeting of the local shareholders of the South Pacific Petroleum Company on Saturday evening, it was resolved to wait Mr Weavers return from California before mrlting a test of the oil. Mr Fleming, of Sydney, managing director present, stated that he was fully assured of the great value of. the property, after having visited the well. A Wellington Fog. Wellington', Monday. The Kanieri started last night for Blenheim, but after going about twelve hours came back to the wharf. It is doubtful if any steamers will get out to time to-day, as the fog is still very thick at the heads. A Life-Saving RaftWellington, Monday. An exhibition of Captain Alman's patent life raft took place to-day before a good number of persons. The raft
was considered by nautical men to be highly satisfactory.
