Alfredton Road Board.

A meeting of the Board was held on Tuesday, 3rd inst, Present, Messrs Kebbell (chairman), Benton, Napier, Smith, and Dunn, The minutes of last meeting were read and con6rmed. Correspondence inwards was read as follows: From the Treasury requesting that a statement be forwarded shewing the debt of the district; attended to, From same, stating that till necessary steps must be completed previous to any responsibilities being undertaken under the fresh loans. From Ekctahuna Road Board re maintenance of Forty Mile Bush road; resolved to inform the said Board that in the meantime no definite reply can be sent, From Commissioner of Crown Lands, approving of proposed expenditure of thirds from village settlements, The chairman suggested that the said works should be postponed till next spring, Resolved to suggest to the Land Board that the thirds available from section 26, Block XI, Mansjaone, be expended in clearing the channel of the Tawataia creek; also that all thirds accrued to sections within the Tawataia special rating area bo placed to the credit of the Board in the bank, as the Government have agreed to grant the loan

applied for. From W. 6. Beard with opinion on the subject of taking land for road purposes. Resolved that the said opinion be borne in mind in getting the survey of the Ihiwaua valley road carried out, From Mr Henry ijall, requesting a statement shewing the total amount due by the School Com-

hrissioners with a view to a settlement. From tho same with a remittance of tho Board's claim against the said Commissioners, less his charges as solicitor, Resolved that Mr Hall be requested to remit the full amount paid by the Commissioners, and that he must look to the latter for all expenses, and that in recovering against the other sections he will bear this in mind. Mr Duffy waited on the Board in reference to his request for a cradlo over the Te Hoe Creek. Resolved to vote the sum of L 2' 10s for the purpose. Mr Dunn referred to the logs lying in, and interfering with, the channel of the platform bridge on the main road at the swamp, and moved that the Council be requested to clear the same, and suggest that the main road at the same place for some two or three chains be raised, to rods which the Board is willing to grant the sum of L 3, In consequence of the contract time having expired, that Mr Girdwood be informed that the Board reserve the power to either have tho work performed in the Spring or cancel the contract. Special orders were passed, making orlevying special rales on the Tawataia road and Ihiwaua Yalley road special rating areas of 3d and l{d in tho f. respectively. The Chairman was empowered to arrange for the letting of 8 chains road formation on the Springvale section, Accounts as per payment sheet, and amounting to £3B 7s, were passed. MessrS Benton and Dunn were appointed to sign cheques, and the date of next meeting was left for the Chairman to fix. Tenders for works on tho Tawataia road were opened as Mows: No. 1 contract —Wrn, Kenny, £BBl3s Gd (accepted); No 2: T. K. York, £6313s lOd j No. 3: Wm, Kenny, £39 2s 6d (accepted); Madsen and Lawsen, £219 17s 4d; T. K. York, £69 14s Gd; No, 5; C. Madsen and Co., £54 (accepted); Wm, Kenny, £56 7s 6d; Madsen and Lawson, £B4 3s; T. K. York, £67 6s 3d; No. 6: C. Madsen and Co., £64 6s (accepted); Wm, Kenny, £6919s 3d; Madsen and Lawson, £92 8s: T, K. York, £69 9s lid; No, 9: Wm. Kenny,£72l9s 9d(accepted); Nd. 10: Wm. Kenny, £39 Is (accepted); E. Elliston, £Bl ss. James McMillan's tenders were found to tie informal, and another tenderer at L2 9s per chain also, the signature being illegible in the latter case, The following tenders were also received for Survey work on the Ihiwaua Yalley road W. G. Hay ward, Llslos per mile; A. J. Rawson, Llo; Cr. Whitcombe, LIS 7s 6d; D. McLachlan, LIT 7a; J. W. Beaufort, LSO for the total length; P. C. JFrasi, Lls per mile; Henry Ellison, LlO accepted.) The foregoing include plans in conformity with the Public Works Act.
