CARTERTON LIBRARY.

The annual general meeting of subscribers to the above was lielcl last Tuesday night, for the purpose of receiving the report and balance sheet for the past year, and for electing a committee for the ensuing year. The chair was occupied by Mr W. Booth. After the minutes had been confirmed, the report and balance sheet were read and adopted. The following were elected officers and committee for the ensuing year '.-President: Mr W. C. Buchanan; Committee: Messrs W. Booth, F, W. K. Seed, B, Boys, E. Samuel, W, Downard, W*. Philpott, and W. Parker, The newly-elected Committee subsequently met, and appointed Mr W. Booth Chairman, Mr F, W. R. Seed Secretary and Treasurer, and Mr Parker, Librarian. The following are the receipts and expenditure for the past yearReceipts (contributions and members' subscriptions), £99 7s 10. Expenditure -Books (including freight, |&c.) .£7O 10s; clerical expenses, £32 8s 4d; total, £10219s 2d; thus leaving a deficit of £3 lis 4d, which is already met by subscriptions due. The Chairman congratulated the members on the healthy financial condition of the Library, which contains 2944 volumes comprising works by all the best known authors. A vote of thanks to the Chairman and to the Secretary brought the meeting to a close.
