Where are the Police ? To the Editor, Sib—Can you inform me if our police do duty after dusk, and, if so, are they supposed to protect passers-by from the insults of the numerous-lar-rikins who infest our streets 1 During the past week Queen street has been the scene of most unseemly conduct on the part of our rising generation, who take a delight in annoying pedestrians whose business compels them to be out after the gas is lit, Hoping the hint will be taken iti the right quarter. I am, ifec.. A Sufferer. The Proposed Chess Club, TO THE EDITOR. Sin,—l am glad to learn from a local in the Daily that it is proposed to establish a Chess Club in Masterton, I believe that there are a number of very lair players in Masterton, and many others who would be glad of the opportunity to learn to play the game. It other arrangements have not already been made it might forward the movement if you would kindly undertake to receive the names of those who are willing to join a Club. When a sufficient number of names have been received, a meeting might be called. If you do not mind taking the trouble, please put down the names which I append.
