Taratahi-Carterton Road Board.
The ordinary monthly meetiug of the Board was held on Saturday last. Present—Messrs 11, R, Bunny (chairman), W. "Booth, W. Parker, J, Eayner, W. Dorset, H. Braithwaite, and W. B. Allen (new member for No 7 Ward). The minutes of the previous meetiug were read and confirmed. The Clerksaidhe was requested to apologise for the absence of Messrs Grace and Stevens, The statement of accounts was then read. In respect to the several roads, some desultory conversation ensued in reference to No. 8 Ward having to find so much towards the maintenance of the main road, inasmuch as that Ward contributes more than one third of the ordinary rates to the Board. It was resolved to lurtlier consider the matter at the next meeting. From Mr Phillips, asking to be allowed to enter a mandamus in the Supreme Court against Mr Anderson, iu respect to the Waioliine Valley road. The Clerk was instructed to inform him that he could take what action he thought proper. From Knutsen and others, asking permission to take gravel out of the Board's pit for a private road leading to their properties. Permission was granted. From Property Tax Department, advising payment of subsidy, £146. From Treasury, advising the loan of £I7OO would be granted after the necessary steps had been taken to secure re-payment of same.. From Geo. Gaskin, asking for another ranger to bo appointed to clear tho roads of stray cattlo. A letter from Mr Kempton-was allowed to stand over till the next meeting of the Board. I Mr J, Eayner gave uotioo to move > thqt fit the next meeting a special rate bo levled'on the whole of No. 1 Ward, for the purpose of meeting the interest and re-payment of loan of £I7OO. The Clerk reported in respect to the dispute between the Ranger and J. Georger. It was resolved that the report as read by the Clerk be adopted, and that the ranger be informed that unless he gives more attention to the stray cattle, tlie subsidy given by the Board will: cease. Resolved, that Mr Braitliwaite's offer of a deviation in the road at Waihakelse be accepted, and that tenders be called for the formation qf tl\e same, Mr C. R, Carter waited on the Board in reference to an exchange of road through his land which had been made some seven years ago. : -= f>;<,' plained the difficulties they labored -, j under in respect to such' matters, but - that fhey could assure him that the matter should be seen to, as soon as : possible; in the meantime Mr Carter to have the privilege of erecting a gato ■ • so as to enclose his land. Mr 1 Crer, thanked the Board for their counesy and retired. Some accounts were passed for payment, and the following tenders wore accepted:—6o chains metalling, Kokatau road, Mr D. Heggearty, 19s 6d per chain; Carter's road, 80 chains, Daysh and Burgess, 19s 9d per chain, and also same men for the Swamp road, 15 chains, 17s lid. per chain. # The meeting then terminated.
