MASTERTON FOOTBALL CLUB. The annual general meetiug of the Masterton Football Club was held on Saturday evening, at the Club Hotel, about twenty - five members being - .: ; present. ' Mr E. M; D. Whatman was vote%_J to the chair. - ' The minutes of the last annual meeting were read and confirmed,: ' The balance sheet was" read ancLdjgceived, showing receipts from ~ sources during the year amounting _ to, £54, members' subscriptions being ~ , £l6 6s, and the proceeds of the first animal soiree £2l. The expenditure for the year was £35 lis 9d, which included the Mowing itemslnterest on ground to January, 1888, £l2; legal expenses-transfer fees, £5 ss; 1 timber for fencing, £3l6s 9d; and six new uniforms, £4 Is. The credit . balance in the Bank was £24 5s 3d. The question of opening the season and other matters connected with the Club was left iu the hands of the Com- , mittee. The annual report was then read • • and the following extract from it be of interest;"It will thug be seen that we have ' a credit balance of £24 5s 8d on last,, ' ; season's proceedings, which, added to our ground and other reliable assets , leaves the Club about £l2llos to the' ■ good. The success of the Club in the . field has equalled its financial; pro- li/ grass,.as we have only suffered .top. : defeat, having played, nine '' with the following results : First fifteen, Wellington Club, 1 winl draw; ■ Greytown, 1 win 1 draw (cup); Carterton, 1 draw 1 win (cup). Second fifteen:Greytown, 1 win; Carterton, 1 win (cup), To Ore Ore, 1 lost (cup). It will thus be seen that the Club's ; first fifteen got the first " leg in" for the senior cup offered for competition " by the Wairarapa Rugby Football •Union. As the approaching season promises to be exceptionally interest- ' ing from a football point of viewowing to the visit of the English team—it is desirable that the Club should get to work at once and en-' deavor to arrange matches with other ' clubs, so that in the event of the Wairarapa Rugby Football Union representatives meeting the English visitors our Club will not justly suffer in the Union selection."
The election of officers "was.'then < proceeded with, the following bj£g elected for the ensuing yearPotdent, Mr A. E. Bunny; Vice-Presi-dents, Messrs S. Von Stunner, Walter Perry, T.E, Chamberlain, and.A. W. Gave; Captain, Mi E. M. D. What* man; Vice-Captain, Mr P. 11, Cox; ; ' Secietary, Mr S. H« Wickerson; Treasurer, 'Mi' W. Mclienzie; Corn- v mittee, Messrs W. B. Chenuels, G. •■ • / H, Smith, J. H. Kibblewhite, C. Bannister, and C. Perry; Match Committee, Messrs P. H. Cox, W.'H. Hirschberg, and E. M. D. Whatman, Delegates to the W.E.F.U., Messrs Cox, Hirschberg, and Whatman '; Auditors, Messrs E, R, C. Coleman, and G. H. Smith. The meeting then adjourned.
Rumor hath it that the Mastertou Football Club are about to lose their speedy wing-man, F. D, Polling, who has douued the" red, gold and black" for several years past with honor to himself and glory to his Club.
The annual meeting of the Waitrfwi rapa Football Union will be held'at about a fortnight's time, when doubtless the question of visits -from Warbrick's Native Team and the English Footballers will be considered.
We notice that the Carterton Foot- ' ' ' bailers have started a junior club—the Eivals—among whom are a number of senior players. Does this • mean that the senior club is defraict ?
With reference to the above, we understand that several Carterton players have signified their intention of joining the Maaterton Club.
The Eed Star Football Club are practising assiduously, and will prove difficult " nuts to crack" in more senses than one during the coming season.
