ARRIVAL OF MAIL STEAMER.

"Railway" Maxwell a Passenger,

Wellington, March 1,

The Zealandia arrived at Auckland at 6.30 a.m. from San Francisco. Passengers for New Zealand—Miss ■Alma'E. Cyphers, Mr J. P. Maxwell and Mrs.Maxwell. A fine weather passage was experienced. Mr Maxwell goes to Wellington by the Wanaka to-day. He has spent a considerable time in the United States, especially studying Railway systems, and will report officially to the Government at an early date.

The Secretary of the American Board of Foreign Missions received advices from Central and Eastern Turkey on February G, that people were dying of hunger and that the money of the mission was exhausted. 10,000 dollars at least is necessary to relieve tho distress in Central Turkey, where famine is the result of drought in Eastern Turkey. It comes from the .devastation of ten thousand square miles by locusts.
