EDUCATION BOARD.

The ordinary monthly meeting of the Education Board was held in Wellington yesterday, A letter was read from Kaiwaiwai, to the effect that Messrs Williams Bros, would give a title to the school, as soon as a teacher was appointed. It was resolved to appoint a teacher at once, and to take steps to obtain the title deeds,

H. Brown and P. Hudson, pupil teachers, who had partially obtained E certificates, asked for higher classification and higher pay, but after some discussion the matter was allowed to stand over, to bo reported on by the Inspector, Mr Lee.

The Masterton School Committee asked the Board to give the Wcsloyan trustees notice that the school-room would no longer be required for an infant school, and suggested that the Temperanco Hall, which was larger, more commodious, and the same rent, should be rented for an infant school. It was resolved to leave the matter in the hands of the Chairman, to whom Mr Lee, who will visit the district next week, will report.

The Chairman of the School Committee also.asked that the Board's architect should visit the school and and make provisions for, the better ventilation of some of the class rooms, Id was resolved to take notice of tho application, The Mauriceville Committee wrote, stating that a difficulty had arisen with the lessor over the land on which the school was built, as he claimed a rightof way to a lime-kiln at the rear of the school, which the Committee disputed. After looking into tho matter, the Board decided to write to the Committee with the view of having the matter amicably settled, Mr J, Stuckey asked for a grant for an aided school at Rangitumau, which the Board resolved to grant. He also suggested that Hiss Manley should be appointed teacher, to which the Board agreed. Mr E. Morgan, Chairman of the Belvedere School Committee, applied for a pupil teacher. It was resolved to entertain the application, the appointing of the teacher being left in the hands of Mr Lee.

A second application from Mr Morgan for shelter sheds was also granted, £o being allowed for the work. While making tho grant the Board resolved, on Mr Buchanan's motion, to grant the Gladstone Committee £5 for a shelter shed,
