Wairarapa Jockey Club's Annual Meeting, Second Day.

President—J P Eussell. Vice President—H S Wardell. Judge-Wallace Smith. Stewards - H H Beetham, N Grace, A Mat,thews, W E Bidwell.'C J Tully, J Maoara, E W Dorset, Alex McKenzie, H Hume, J Drummond. Treasurer—W 0 Buchanan, Starter —Natli Grace, Handicappers —The Stewards. Clerk of Scales—E W Dorset. Timekeeper—W 0 Williams, Clerk of Course—o Tioehurst.

Favored again with Queen's weather, the second day's racing of the above meeting was witnessed by between five and six hundred neople, a good many more North Wairarapa folks putting in an appearance than on the first day, and they were rewarded with an excellent day's sport,' several of the finishes being tip top. As •on the first clay the Stewards worked with. a will, and having the assistance of Mr E. R. Armstrong, it is needless to say that everything went as smoothly as possible. The Greytown band again enlivened the lawn, while outside the enclosure numerous games tended to the amusement of the speculative, and helped many a one to get rid of the nimble shilling. Several police were in attendance, but they had nothing to do but enjoy themselves and get up sweeps, anything like rowdyism or drunkenness being most conspicuous by its absonce. Considering' ilia number present, the boothadders appeared to do a fair trade. ;he fields in one or'two cases being smll, the aJDunc put through the ioialis.itor did not coma up to tue average, the beat dividend being paid oat on Ijancer in the Grand Stand Handicap, With the exception of being rather hard—and nothing else could be expected with the weather we have been treated to—the course was iu very fair order. There are some who croak that the prosent course willnever make a decent racing track, but after the W.J.C. havohndit a couple of years longer, with anything like luck, these folks will have to alter their opinions,

The fun commenced with the Handicap Hurdles, for which Freebooter, Kangaroo, and Johnny weighed out. Johnny was a bit fancied, but the way he shaped at the sticks the previous day hardly justified any great support, and lie repeated his first day's trick of getting inside a post. The fences suited Freebooter, who is a great hand at knocking them over, for which he Days the penalty with a pretty pair of hind legs. What promised to be a great race was spoilt by Kangaroo coming down at the fifth jump. The horse was apparently not quite himself and had to be ridden nearly all the way. Winteringham was a good deal shaken, but fortunately had no bones broken.

No Name won. the Handicap Hack Hurdles, but the tables would most likely have been turned had Exchange been made a little more use of earlier in the race. Jack spoilt liis chance by coming down a cropper at the first hurdle opposite the stand, Alexander being badly shaken, Forester appropriated the Telegraph Stakes from Cupid, though the youngster stuck to him well for half the journey. In another year or two anything that sets in front of this colt will have to shift itself. At present he lias the appearance of being a bit overgrown.

The Handicap Hack Race brought out a field of seven, and Firstwatei* being thrown in with Bst among a lot of hacks, of course romped home as she liked, Speculator being the only one to get near her at the finish. The Shah to thought to be the good thing for the WJ.O. Handicap, though Revoke had more on her in the machine, twenty of the forty tickets on her being rung on just as the bell went for the start. The pot, however, was upset by Smooth, who went to the front at the start and stayed there. The Shah got at him once or twice, but the 9st 71b he had to hump told its tale, and he had to cry content with second place to the game little son of Mangle. None of the others showed up iu the race, Torohunga and Satanella being outpaced from the start. Quite contrary to what used to be, when from ten upwards usually started for this event, only four came out for the catch weight Harry Scurry, and this was merely a set to between Tauhereiiikau and Othello. Nina went well for a bit, but shut up as soon as she was called upon to make an effort, apparently, like Forester, taking very unkindly to anything like being ridden. The time was only half a second longer than the Telegraph Stakes, Five cried content for the Grand Stand Handicap, Some trouble was experienced in getting Lancer to face the starter, and when the flag did go down, he was some time before he got on his feet, Revoke and Cupid went to the front at once, and raced well together for half the distance, but here Lancer went through, and soon had them settled. The way he cut them down put the race right out of doubt, as they never got on terms with him again, and he got to the judge first by a couple of lengths. More will be heard of the youngster, as he has the cut of a really smart animal. The following are the events in the order in which they were run: Handicap Hurdle Race, 40 sovs, second horse 5 sovs, over hurdles 3ft 6iu, If miles Nomination £l. acceptance £l,

In this order they raced to the first jump, Freebooter making as much ground as Kangaroo lost at it. The second fence saw the same order, which they negotiated safely,- but Johnny ran inside a post here and was not persevered with. The other pair then went at it, Kangaroo being ridden a bit, freebooter loci past

Out of the straight, Smooth was still in command, Toroliunga aud Satanella tailing off, the latter pair being outpaced at the back of the course. Revoke was first to show in front from a good start, Lancer losing a lot of ground, being a bit fractious. Cupid went up to Revoke, and the pair raced together to the far side when Lancer began to go up, Pilgrimage andßollo tailing off. Before the straight was reached Lancer had got on terms with the leaders, and coming like a good 'un soou had them hopelessly in troublo, and though Vailn rode his charge all he knew, the three-year-old proved too good, and passed the post a length from Revoke with something in hand.
