MASTERTON ROAD BOARD.
The usual monthly meeting was held on Saturday, January U, PresentMessrs W. H. Beethani (chairman), W. B. Bulck, Dagg, and Welch. CORRESPONDENCE.
The Treasury re applications for loan of £IOO intimating that the loan conld ouly be considered after the date for receiving applications had been gazetted. Same advising Board that £2OO hud been remitted on acoount of grant ot £750. Mr Oarruthers, resident engineer, intimating that the Railway Department could not comply with the request to construct a level crossing at 73m 20c, Chief Surveyor, applying far a tracing of road from Te Ore Ore along the Ruamahunga. Mr C. Pinkerton, Clerk Whareama Road Board, with resolution ro payment of balance due by that Board. Messrs Peter Gordon, Eden Vale, Te Whiti and Burnett and Pike authorising the construction of a tramway by Mr Corpe over the road adjoining their property. Mr J. Corpe, applying for permission to make tramway.' Mr A, Harford, applying for office of Ranger. Colonial Seoretary, re gazetting of polls, It was resolved to authorise Mr Cprpe's tramway, subject to usual conditions; that Whareama Road Board be again asked for balance of account, and. reminded that the sum had been mutually agreed upon; that the tracing asked by Mr Marchant be forwarded. Donovan's road.
Tlie.following letter was addressei to the Chairman:
Sir,—The question of Donovan's rortd is not one for ratepayers to light over, Yon know it is "not just or right to saddle a property with two roads through 'the same paddook. Yon acknowledge the prespnt awkward h'x is owing to the vacillation of the Biard; it lies with the Board to set things straight, and 1 shall not let the matter drop till you do so. I enclose a petition, I am, etc,,
W. B. Maihesok. The petition was as follow,
" We, the undersigned ratepayers of the Masterton Road Board, beg to remind you that the new road fiom Donovan's to the Camp was laid 08 and formed under a thorough understanding that it was in place ot tho old one. And we hereby ask you to at once take necessary steps to close the old road,
W, B. MATHEBON, A. A.Elkins, JR. McKay, Owen H. Osborne. It was resolved that the petitioners be informed that the Board has no power to stop the road as requested, and that their attention be called to Clauses 93,94, and the following subdivisions of the Public Works Act, It was further decided "That the Minister of Public Works be written to in reference to the railway crossing referred to in Mr Carruthers' letter," DEPUTATIONS. Mr J. C. Herbert waited on the Biwnl in respect to a road through the Pirau Swamp, and applying that the. drains be widened, Resolved that the Overseer, aocoicpanied by Mr Bniok, should iuspect and report upon the matter, . •Mr Biirnetb applied for metalling part' of Fernridge Road, in No, 3 Ward, stating that tha Board's contribution would be'subsidised by subscriptions. It was resolved to invite tenders for the work, and also for metalling the road to Mr Burnett's sawmill. ■
Mr Gorringo attended and asked the Board to defray the cost of fencing Burnett's mill road, The Board held over the application, pending information as to loan, . Karaitisna asked.permissiontoereota gate on the Matabiwi road, Liberty to do so was granted for six months. Mr Holmes requested some metalling on the same line of road, and it was resolved to invite tenders, The Board deoided to paint the 70 feet bridge on th,e Waipawa Valley Road. Mr J, Stuckey attended re division of wards. It was decided to prepare a petition on the subject, and that a sum of L 5 should be devoted for defraying the expense of getting' the' necessary signatures.
