Mastkrton v. Gbeytown.
The first match of the season between' - the above Clubs came off at Greytown on Saturday.last, And resulted in jgrin for the Home team by an nine runs to spare. The pitch was in capital order -and the fielding ground passable, consequently .|ho bowlers had ' a day out, and. there was a much smaller number of <( extraß" 'than usual. Masterton was the first to handle the willow, Jnckson and Kibble-, white facing tbe bowling of Cuff andJudd, The latter clean bowled Jackson in his first over, and Poffnall joined Kibblewhite, but Cuff in his second over sent both wickots flying, • the score being three wickets for five# ' runs. A melancholy procession waW now witnessed, Iggulden, Perry, Stokes and Bremner all received their quietus with the score at fire, and the hopes of the: visiting team getting into double figures looked very doubtful. Erskine and C. D'Arcy managed to break the string of" ducks," but they were, both dismissed with the score at eight, Molvor and A. D'Arcy auoceedSfcin taking the score to 16 when the Wier was bowled by Cuff, having made th? top score" viz four runs. Greytown mads a very .bad start having lost their two first wickets for as many runs, when Cox and Judd got together and managed to carry the score to 38 before the formbr was caught by Perry, having compiled . .17 by careful play. judd remained atibe wickets till the ' total reached 56 when he was bowled by Pownall, having made 34 of tjip number, by steady play r showing good two batsmen, notie of the others mmL/ a stand, there being five" ducks," -t|F last three falling with the score at: 65. Pownall did some good trundling during the innings, being credited with nine of the wickets, five being clean bowled. The visitors were more'successful in their secoud, attempt, and put together 40 runs, of which number Perry made 13, being the only one to get into double figures. Greytown, although having won the match® & single innings, went to the wickets & second time, and only compiled 34 runs, the top scorers in the first innings being-got. rid . of very cheap. The result of the match was not a great surprise to those who have • watched tile.play, of both clubs this season.
