MASTERTON ROAD BOARD.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the Masterton Road Board wag held on Saturday last. Present Messrs W. H. Beetham. (Chairman), R. D. Dagg, W. B, Buick, and A. Johnston. Tne minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. The following correspondence was read and confirmed. From Mr C. A. Pownall, solicitor for Mr Donovan requesting the .Board to tab the earliest opportunity to have the road legalised, fenced, and constructed across the property owned by Mr Hessey. Mr A. Carruthers, Government engineer, ro erection of cattle stops at Dreyerton. Treasury advising payment of £9OO under Loans to Local Bodies Aots 1886. Property Tax Department, circular, re alteration to be made in rail of lands rateable to natives. The following resolutions were passed. • That the Railway department b» again requested to proceed to erect a level crossing on the line at 73 miles 29 chains at Dreyerton. That the Clerk be instructed to write to the Whareama Board and request payment of £IOO, balance due, to the Board.
That the Chairman be requested to attend a meeting of ratepayers to be held on Saturday 24th inst., at 2 o'clock, to consider a proposal to alter aline of road leading through Messrs Judd Bros property at Upper Manaia. That the Olerk be instructed to take proceedings to recover rates duo by absentee owners. : • That the Government be written to for payment of thirds due oil property sold on deferred payments, and also for a payment on account of the sum of £7lO borrrowed under the " Loans to Local Bodies Act 1886."
Wi Waka waited oil the Board, with reference to the land required for a road leading to Mr Cadea property at Rangitumau,
The Clwk waa instructed to write to the Commissioner of Crown Lands, and ascertain if the road from Te Ore Ore, along tli Ruamananga River leading to the propertiosof Messrs Stuckey. Mawley, and others'lias been legalised. . Mr D'Arcy waited on the Board with reference to, the road leading to his p/operiy,. and asked that something might bo done to improve it. The Overseer was instructed to inspect it, and report upon it at next meeting. Messsrs Jolmstoli aud Buick wero appointed to sign cheques on behalf of the Board. The following tenders were received for metalling at South Mauriceville: F. G. Palmer (accepted) £lB 19s, Gardiner & Co, £19155, Stevens £22 l(k Metalliug 100 chains Ko ad—Cornelius (accepted) £2OO, W. Hawke 499$ 10s, Gardiner & Co, 4240, H. Sevens £24015s 6d, B. Ow- Mil lbs (3d, John Anderson m> ■ Aooounta and wage? amounting to 1273 were passed for payment, and, thb meeting adjourned; '
