EKETAHUNA.

(From an Occasional Correspondent.)

A meeting was held in the school-, room, on Saturday, October Ist, 'to decide on the disposition of the reserve on Alfredton road, and to discuss the measures for narrowing the road through the township. Mr L. Bayliss was voted to the chair, there being a. large attendance of those interested. After stating the purpose of the meeting, the chairman read a letter from Mr Marcliant, intimating that if the residents did not state a definite purpose for the.- reserve before tho 10th October, it would be sold. The chairman then showed plans and read the Act re Reserves and the several purposes for which the Governor might reserve Crown lands.' . After some discussion, Mr Penneyproposed that a portion, not less than one acre, be devoted as a site for. a Mechanics' Institute, Library and Museum, to be taken off the east point; fronting Alfredton road; also, not less than one acre to bo taken off tho corner abutting on section 15, for. growth and preservation of timber. Tho balance of 6 acres, 1 rood, 19 poles or less, to be .devoted for a public recreation ground.: This motion was seconded by Mr Selby and carried unanimously. The chairman was requested to communicate this resolution to the Crown Lands Commissioner, The Chairman then read the provisions of a measure to reduce the width of the road through Eketahuna, determined on at. a previous. meeting (from a S.W. angle of section T, to section 20) by 75 on each side. At present the road was inconveniently wide (three chains) The original intention was to reserve sufficientroad, for both road and rail. Nowtlio railway was laid off altogether outside of the limits of the said reserve. The owners of contiguous sections weretohave the first offer of the frontages at the original upset .price of the land. Mr Magnus Neilsen begged to point out that there was no clause reserving -the gravel pit where metal could only be got for a long distance. An objection was raised that better metal could be got from the river bed. It was proposed by M. Neilsen, and seconded -by Mr

Anders Andersen that a clause be inserted providing that the frontage of township sections 23 to 29 be reserved for a; gravel pit, Carried unanimously. Mr F. Jagerhorn wished interested owners of sections to be'informed how much it would cost, if any more, than £ 1 per acre. The Chairman said lie would., correspond on that matter, and inform the owners.
