WAIRARAPA SOUTH COUNTY.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the above was held at the Council Chambers, Carterton, on Saturday last, Present—CSra W. Booth (Chairman, H. Bunny, W. C. Buchanan, H. R. Bunny, J. Tully, A. Matthews, C. Phillips, J. Martin, and'H. Braithwaite, The minutes of the previous meeting wore read and confirmed. It was resolved that slaughterhouse licenses be granted to the butchers of Featherston, and that a copy of the legal opinion of Mr Beard on the Slaughterhouses Act be forwarded to the Featherston Town Board. A long discussion ensued on the question of legalising roads, when it was decided that the legal ■ opinions in writing on the matter be obtained from' Sir Egbert Stout, Or Buchanan suggested, that the Featherston Road Board and Taratalii-Cartertou Board be considered in tho matter, and requested to cite some road or road 3 which they wished to havo legalised. A letter from the Featherston Road Board, asking the County Council to contribute towards a road from Featherston to Lower Valley, was referred to the Public Works Committee. An application from the Wairarapa Hospital Trustees for a subsidy to tho hospital was, after some discussion, granted to the amount of £slos. The Charitable Aid was fully discussed, and it was resolved that tho first instalment up to 80th June be paid to the United District Board, The minutes of the Public Works Committee were read and confirmed, which embodied the Engineer's rppqrfc, who rqpqrted favorably on.the works in progress in the Lower Valloy, and recommended that the logs be cleared away near the Hurunuiorangi bridge. It was resolved that the balance due on contract to Mr Haggerfcy bo paid, and that Mr King make the best terms in respect to clearing the slips from the road, The, following tenders were received for 100 chains formation and culverts, Martin-borough-Pahau road:—Gardner and Co, £180; A. Levick, £2 18s per chain; K. Rolston, 28s per chain (accepted), 13 chains formation and. culverts, Pahau-Oystorshell Creek : A. Levick, £8 18 per chain; Gardner and Go, £49 (accepted), • The wages sheet and several accounts were passed for payment, and the meeting terminated,
