TINUI.
[from our own correspondent.] The Queen's Birthday passed off this week in the usual quiet manner for which this district is renowned. No great oxcoss of loyalty or exuberance of spirits was shown, even during tho evening in the vicinity of the hotel. Shooting seemed to be tho order of; the day, almost everything in the shapo of a gnu being called into requisition, but I do not think the game suffered very much. An im-. promptu dance in tho hall brought the, day to a close, and was greatly, enjoyed by. those who wore present; dancing being kept up until almost daylight. I hear that arrangements: are likely to be mado for a ball to be held on the-21st Juno, in honor-of Her Majesty's Jubilee-. Who will say j after litis that loyalty has not reftcW' this far, although, I fear, that loyalty is, in this case, only the" aocondary; consideration.
■'llia election fov. the extraordinary vacancy in the ' Castlopoiut/.Boid Board look place yesterday, Mej3rsf.. Jlaimsoll and H. Beliiss having been nominated to fill the vacancy, •' The result was that Mr Mauueell -was elected, securing 13 ■■ votes to. Lite bpponeuts seven. I must say the apathy displayed by the mombersofthis Board is very great, no quorum ■having boon present at the last two:. meetings.' Mr Drummond's rabbit meeting also" on Wednesday last, was fairly success{ul, and if the' resolutions could be ciirriod out in their entirety I boliove they would effectually chock tho pest. I say tiouli be carried out, because I fear it is next to. impossible that, boundaries can be -simultaneously poisoned on many ot the largo runs in this district without such runs ■ keepinj? on several different gangs of ,nieu, which I do no not expect they will feel inclined to do. '■ ! A meeting of the Committee of the Tinui and Cashpoint Library is to be lield during the coming wook (Ist pros.) at which tho quostionof amalgamating with tho Uriti Library will,' I believe, como up. ; lam phased'to say a little life is being infused into the Library by the prosent Secretary, and that it is proposed to opon branches at Upper and Lower Whavoama and Whakataki, which will, I know be greatly appreciated by those districts
