This Board .met at featherston on ' Salurday,. Present,—Messrs J. Tully (Chairman), W. E. Bid will, O. Elgar, A. Matthews, D. McDougall, H. C, Dowman, C. Harris, and T. Monckton, The Clerk read the minutes of the previous meeting which were confirmed.

Mr Dowman said he would like Mr Deering to measuro up road work (metalling) done in bis ward with a view to ascertain at what price per chain the work cost, and as to whether day labor was as cheap to the Board as contract work. Mr Deering. the overseer; said in sjiehTSases as that referred to by Mr Bowman he thought daywork might be cheaper to the Board. He would measure up the work. Mr Bidwill said he would like to see all road work- tendered for, even if in some cases, the Board paid a little more for the work. It was fairer to ratepayers generally. The Clerk read the correspondence outwards.

The inward correspondence was read, which included a letter from the Chief Surveyor, to the effect that he was not aware of any road having been laid ofl to Section 93 in the road district. From Colonial Treasurer, announcing that ho had decided to inscribe in i Treasury the stock, aud there was no occasion to issue debentures ; the interest on said stock inscribed to bear interest at five per cent payable Mf yearly. Prom Mr E H.' Wolters County Clerk, upon the same subject, From Mr Coleman Phillips asking the Road Board to assist in erecting a bridge .between Matarawa and Greytown across the Waiobine river; also complaining of the unsafe state of the platform on the road between Carterton and Greytown, and in his ridiug. From Mr C. Pharazyu,. asking that a road and cutting bo made as soon as possible in fclie Awhea district, From ratepayers in Wo. 6 Ward, recommending the Board to erect the Kaliautara bridge across the Rumahmigit at the upper site proposed. Mr Skeefc said he had written to the Clerk to the lliver Board officially, re metal required from the Waiohine river, hut he lad eglected to reply, He thought it- would be necessary to ask Mr W. Udy to allow the use of his road for the purpose of getting the metal from the river bed,

Tenders were opened for tbo follow ing worksßemoving platform and forming and metalling road—G. Wiggins, £46 lis; S. Ganity, £B9 10s ; Burgess Bros., £46 10s (accepted). For 60 chains forming and metalling at South Featherston—Burgess Bros., 16s 6d per chain; F. Wilkinson I7s ; J..H, HodJer, 12s; Bickwell & Gooderick, 12s (accepted); C. Marsh, 16s, and Gardener & Co., £45 lump • sum.

Mr J. H. Hodder asked for a progress payment of £l4, and extension of time for his contract, both of which were grauted. A. telegram was received from Mr King, engineer, stating that he had lost his horse at Gladstone/ and could not attend upon that account. On the motion of Mr Matthews, seconded by Mr Elgar the rate recently made was confirmed, Messrs Matthews and Elgar to sign the rate book. The matter of the formation of the Awhea Road was deferred to allow Mr Harris time to confer with Mr Eiddiford upon the matter. It was resolved to reply to Mr James Donald that the Chief Surveyor is not aware of a road being made to his sections, No 93, Kahautara.

It was resolved to reply to Mr Coleman Phillips to the effect that the contemplated Matarawa Bridge site is not within the Road Board district. Some members expressed their annoyance at Mr King's absence, as they wished to get the matter of the' Martinborough Road deviation advanced, which could not be well accoin-

plished without tho plans were produced, It was ultimately resolved that Messrs Elgar, Harris, Bidwill and Dowman be a committee to" see Mr King, examine plans, and at once deal with the matter of the road deviations if necessary. On the motion of Mr McDougall, seconded by Mr Bidwill, the upper I site for the Ruamahanga Bridge at/ Kahautara was agreed upon in accordance with the representations made by the settlers in that district, and Mr King prepare tho sectional plans, specifications, &c. '.

Mr Tully moved and Mr Dougall seconded, that Mr G. Lawrie's offer oi

| .£3O for the Waihenga toll house be accepted, and that the former resolution be rescinded.—Carried. It was resolved that the Overseer have part of Murphy's line formed and metalled, and if necessary to' call for tenders,

crossings and road ways in the locality, also some four or five chains, day work, by Burling and Goodings,
