MASTERTON SCHOOL.

The ordinary meeting of tho Master, ton School Committee was hold in the upper room of the Institute last evening (Thursday). Present—Messrs J. C Boddington (chairman), A. W, Hogg, 1?, W; Redman, and J. Muir, The minutes of tho last ordinary and subsequent special meetings wore read and confirmed, and the Treasurer reported a dobit balanco ot PA 17s Bd, but that a capitation of £3512s Gd was now due, Letters wero read from tho Secretary of iho Education Board, stating that the Chairman of the Board and Messrs Brown and Young wero appointed a committee to report on the School sites. Also that two students, Messrs Mclntyre and J. S; Martin had beonsontto Maetertouby the Board, until tho arrival of the newly appointed teachers A ciroular was also received from tho .Board stating that provisions had been inado for the election, and that absentees could bo elected, and that three householders were sufficient to constitute the meeting. The Head Master reported that there were 556 on the roll, average attendance, 464, highest attendance, 498, lowest 414, 'The two students, who were at present tilling the vacancies, were carrying on the wprk wftb ability and industry, and that the.school was not likely to suffer much through thetimeof waiting from: the resignation of Mr aud Mrs Bey., nell aud tho appointment of their successors.

Miss Keeling reported the number on the Infant School roll to bo 122, average attendance 100, highest attorn l , ance 110, lowest 92, Owing to the prevalence of sickness the attendance bad not beeu satisfactory on some occasion, but tho average during the month was the highest yet attained. Tho Secretary was instructed to write to tho Boii'd re a blackboard aud easel required for the infant sohool. It was resolved, on the motion of Mr Kedman, seconded by Mr Muir, That this Committee respectfully urje the' Board to make suitable provisions for promptly supplying the temporary vacancies caused through tho resignation of teachers,

Owing to the prevalence of measles and other sickness iu the town, it was resolved ''That the medical practitioners in Mastertott be respectfully requested to forward to the Secretary the names of families who have measles or others infectious diseases in their midst, so that the head master may take proper measures to prevent the spread of the same among tho scholars."

The report aud balance sheet of the past year was read and adopted.

Accounts amounting to £6 13s 8d were passed for payment, Mr Redman was appointed visiting member, and the meeting adjourned.
