MASTERTON.-FRIDAY. Before S. Von Sturmer, R,M. BREAOH OF BOROUGH BY-LAWS. A. Bpooner, residing in Hessey street, was chargodon the information of the Borough Inspector with neglecting to employ .the. licensed nightsoil man to remove nightsoil from his premises. Accused pleaded guilty. Tho Inspector said this was tho first case under tho by-law,- and pointed out to Ins Worship that it was not generally known. The nuisance had heenremoved since the complaint had been made. His Worship.inflicted a fine of ss, and drewattontion to the necessity of enforcing"the by-law, and. hoped the case would act as a warning to tho public. ' A NEW AMIVAL. ' Mary Ami Brown, a middle aged woman, was charged with being drunk and disorderly in a publio place last evening. SergeantPriceand Constables Cooper and Healy gave .evidence -against the accused- It appears that Mary arrived froin Wellington by the mid-day train yesterday, and having become excited and elated by the change of air, behaved herself in such ,a manner that the police wore compelled to place her under lock and key, and even then she kicked, thumped and screamed in such a manner that the police were kept awake the whole night. Mary told his Worship that she was
teetotally wronged by everyono.'justbe-; cause Lor old man and her could not agree, The Police were in the? .habit of" boozing up" with her old. man, and they got a down on her.-; She considered she had a just right to say what she liked to her own, and if her old man could not see things in the same light as she did, it was nothing to nobody. She got rather excited yesterday, in being in a strange- town,, and when the police put. their hands, on her, it.frightenecl;her..sQ.niucl), thai •she remarked-to; them-..as..they mm putting her in the accomodation place, " I suppose now,-you will sa,y- iam 'dfimli.in'the morning?'".Her".fright" continued when she. was in the little place, and she knocked' just to get a drink of water, but, (to use her. own words), "I might as well knock at the sido of a church as to knock there, they wput to bed and didn't care whether I died or not during tho night.".'. His Worship, taking into consideration .. Mary's previous examplary character, inflicted a..fine of 20s, or 24 hours' imprisonment. -
