MASTERTON HOSPITAL.

The monthly meeting of the Trustees was held yesterday afternoon (Thursday) at the Masterton Institute— Present—Messrs' J. 0. Boddington '(Chairman), W. H. Beetham, B. P. Perry, JR. D. Dagg, W, B, Keith, and the Rev. W. E, Paige. The minutes o( the last meeting were readjnd conGrmed, and the .Treasurer reported a credit balance of 18s 6d. . •' : ""yf: '■ The Chairman stated 'that the action

of the' Disfcribb' Board'at its last meeting would hftveno effect on the requirements of the Hospital as they had acted contrary to the spirit of the Aot. With reference to the Maste'rton returns not being forwarded to the Board he said that was entirely owing to the Secretary not receiving notice of the Board meeting, before the evening previous to the meeting', if two or threedays .notice had been given, it would have been .prepared and sent down. He stated that it was possible that the, Trustees would be able to '"d'o> without the assistance bhhe Board this year, tih'd that the deficiency would be met by voluntary subscriptions or oontri--butions'from the County and Borough Councils., The District Board would, however, have to raise the money according to. the Act should the Trustees require it.

A letter was read from Mrs G. Beetham forwarding some books and magazines for the Hospital.'

The Chairman remarked that tho present was a very, valuable addition to the Hospital library und would prove very acceptable to the patients.'

A vote of-thanks was accorded Mrs Beetham for tbo gift, and a similar compliment was passed to Mr T. Dixon for a:present of honey.' and plums,' to .the, Hospital. " . .

In answer to Mr Dagg, tho Chairiuan said that last year tbey had received £SO from tho Countv, and £-25 from the Borough Council.- Ho thought they could apply to these bodies again, conditionally, that if they should reqtiiro the amount, so that these bodies could place it on their estimates,

Mr Dagg thought' it was advisable to make the application at once as the estimates for the year would shortly be struck, • and moved, " That the Secretary be instructed to apply to the North County Council, and the Borough Council for the sums of £SO and £25 respectively, iu view cf a possible deficiency in the Hospital revenue.

Mr Beetham, in seconding the motion, hoped the public would continue to support the Hospital, so ns to avoid a rate being struck, as it was a valuable institution, and' a credit to tho district, The motion, was carried.

Mr Beetliain enquiredif the Hospital districts were deGned, and what were the boiimlaiios, as he might induce the workmen at the Waingawa to subscribe to the Hospital, if they would be entitled .to. the privileges."". ' The Ohairuian ■ said the Waingawa river was the Hospital boundary but it did not matter where persons resided, for. as long as they wore subscribers to the institution they were fully. entitled to its benefits.
