FATAL FIRE IN NAPIER.

.]■'., ... • • :''Napier,January6, . . " : A ; fire broke out in a 'small house, -near the/Catholic School,' in the Shakespeare road, at ■ 1 a.m. to-day. The house was occupied by a 'family; named Teehon as a boardmg-hgusefor laborers. The back of the bvdltling was discovered to be on fire by a passer-by, who,' failing to raise the inmates, ran to the nearest firebell. Both the town and Spit brigades wore quickly at the scene,.but by this time the houso was gutted and wrapped in flames. .The tire was, however, confined to one dwelling-house. As soon as possible an'entrance was effected, when the worst fears were realised, the bodies of two men, fearfully mutilated, being discovered huddled together. One was recognised as that of the proprietor, the other being that of a laborer named Kelly. Mrs Trehon and family left town to visit some friends in the country yesterday. Both men were drinking over night. An inquest is to be held this afternoon. There is an insurance in the London and Lancashire of £IOO on the. building.
