A matoh was played on Saturday last between tonms picked from the Volunteers and combined Firo Brigades, and resulted in a win for tho former by 18 runs on the first innings, Tho Volunteers went first to the wickets and when the last stump fell had run up a Boore of 59, E. Weloh 14 and A. Matthews 13 being tho highest contributors. The field was thou taken by volunteers, tho Firo Brigadesmen handling the willow. The bowling of tho Volunteers was too good for tho Firemen, who only succeeded in putting together 41 runs, Minifie 8 and Ward 1 being tho highest scorers. In the Becond innings tho Volunteers compiled 73 runs, Anketell and McLachlan with 11 and 10 respectively being the highest.
