Wellington Stars v Masterton.

The match between the above clubs was played on the Park Oval yesterday and resulted in the defeat of the local team by 141 runs on the first innings, The match pitch was used and it played fairly, the ball getting up rather bad every now and then. The visitors arrived on Monday evenina so as to allow play to begin early in the morning. Maunsell and Moore captained the tcamß while Messrs Bremner and Reeve umpired. The Masterton team went to the wiokets first, and were not disposed off till the total reached' 89. Of the number C. Perry made the fine Bcore of 51, not out. His innings was decidedly tho best played during the match, as while Moorliouso and Dryden gave four or five ohances Perry did not give even a "ghost" of a chance and well deserved • evory run he got. Goodor bowled well for Mb Bide, securing must of the wickots, but his average does not show bo well as C. Dryden'B, who took 4 wickets for 25. The Star team then went in, but the bowling and fielding of the Masterton men not being anything like up to the mark, they wore not disposed until the score had reached the fine total of 230. Moorhouse and Dryden were the principal scorers, but their batting was marred by several chanceß, the former being dropped no less than four time. Had these chances been taken advantage of, the visitors would have been very littlo ahead of the local men, as the two players mentioned put on no less than 145 while they were together. In the second innings Maßterton had three wickets down for 22. The fieldinc of the Star team was excellent, and rather a contrast to that of their opponents, though D'Arcy certainly deserves a word of praise for his fielding. The following are the scores .
