At the three hundred yards matters were reversed and Masterton's chance of victory looked very '•'ttloomy indeed as they lost 17 points at tliis riui?o. At the 500 yards range, howover when the eighth man had fired 'J they were level with their oppononts. V Mastorton's ninth, man having a bit of bad luck lost nine poinds on his man leaving the tontli man nine points to gain, Mastorton's chance of .victory soemed gone, but as their motto is "Novor say die" and as fchoy happened to have tho right man in the right place in tlie person of Vol. Anketell, who pulled them out of the tiro by making 22 points against his opponents 10, bo that Vol. Anketell richly deserves tho honor of winning the match for The Carterton men were in charge Lieutenant Moore, tho Masterton mon . being under command of Lioutenant Thompson, Cheers wore exchanged by each team after tho match, and the companies separated after having spent a most enjoyable day.
