Dunedin, 29th. Ono hundred and forty-four watches were seized by tho Customs yesterday. Tho importers valued them.at 4s 6d, but tho Customs, finding their value to be 9s 6d, seized tho lot and submitted them to auction. Wellington, this day, The Hon J. Biillance teturned from Wanganui last night. He visits the Wairarapa shortly to make enquiries as to the progress of the Village and Special Settlements there. William Tumpleton, alias Piper, has been connuitteed for trial for burglariously entering the Baniple rooms of the Empire Hotel aud stealing a quantity of wearing apparel. Wanganw, 29th. Notice of motion was given in tho Borough Council last night that the Mayor for the next year receive £l5O as salary,
