■'Melbourne, September 20. Communications are passing be tween the Governments of New South Wales and Victoria wiih a view to the prevention of the threatened increase ol the cable tariff between Australia and New Zealand. The Yiotoriun Government, it is understood, favors a general contribution by the colonies to all the Australian cabins on the basis of population. Mr Warren, Superint- j i'i|ant of the Eastern Intension Telegraph Company at Low Heads, Tufv.i ania, has wired to the London office of the Company, suggesting that the proposed increase of tariff bit postponed for one mouth, to allow of further negotiation*.
