FOOTBALL.
VISIT OF THE NEW SOUTH WALES TEAM. The Reception Committoe are doing their best to make the visit of the Sydney team a pleasant ono. The team will arrive by tho mid-day train on Monday, when thoy will be met by the Committeo and driven in a drag with four greys to the Club Hotel, If time permits before the match they will be driven round the town. They will be entertained at a dinner in tho evening, at tho Club Hotel, at which the President of tho Wairarapa Rugby Union, Mr G-, Beetham, M.H.E., will be present. Mr W. C, Buchanan, M.H.R., has also been invited to take part at the festive board, If is expected that the gathering will be ono of the largest held in the district. His Worship the Mayor has consented to invite the citizens to observe a half holiday on Monday, and a requisition is being signod by the business people to the' offecfc that they will close their places of busiiiens after ono o'clock. The Volunteer Band has kindly consented to play selections on the ground. It is oxpected . that tho team will return on tho following day (Tuesday), as they play the Canterbury Union at Christchurch on Saturday week, The Reception Committee will meet this ovening at 7.30. /
The Wairarapa Union is likely to suffer a great loss in their team, asC. Perry, three-quarter buck, .will bo unable to play, through a Bovero illness. This will necessitate his place being filled from among the forwards, Webster probably, and 0. Fairbrother, the first emergency, will take his place in tho team, About thirty footballers turned out on tho Maatorton ground yesterday afternoon, when a good practice was indulged in.
Ab the Masterton and Carterton teams have not met this season, it is expected that a matoh will be arranged between them for next Saturday week.
