CORRESPONDENCE.

(To the Editor.) Sin,—lt was with feelings of deep regret that I read in your valuable paper yesterday that Mr Casolberg has no intention of coming forward as a candidate for the Mayoralty for the ensuing year. Sir, I think a requisition ought to be got up asking him to consent to come forward again. If any one deserves the honor of sitting at the head of the Council for a third torm it ia our present

Mayor. Hia well-known business chpa : bilifcy has done more for the advancement of the Borough during hia two years of office than has been done for it. by any previous Mayor, although we'have had many capable men at the helm. We may thank Mr Caselberg forthegasloanbeing carried and the work pushed on, and I think, Sir, he should be kept in office for another year, when, gas will be an established fact. The paying. for the gaa will, be • an established fact also and we shall, require someone at the helm of state who is largely interested on that important point. Then again, the present Mayor has knooked the Council into shape, and the meetings of that body are carried on in a tusinessliko manner, thanks to his firmness in the chair, instead of being a mere debating society. The question of tho Waipoua river protective works is still in abeyance and if Mr Casolberg is kept at the head of affairs for anothem term he will bi ablo to form a River Board and his- yean of experience on the Waiohlne River Board would be invaluable; The division of the Borough into wards requires the direction of such t brain as our present Mayor, and altogether Ho not soe how we could do better than, by returning him for a third term. Hoping this will' bo theoase, I remain, &c, ' Pboobess. - ■"' SHEARING PRICES. Tothb Editor. ■Sill,—l shall be glad if you will contradict the statement made at the meeting of shearers that we have arranged to shear at 20a. We do not intend to give 20a this year for shearing. ■; lam&c, . ' " ' Hbnry Eldee.
