FEATHERSTON ROAD BOARD.
The ordinary monthly meeting of tho Board was held on Saturday, tho Sthinst. All the members were present. The minutes of the ordinary and special meetings were read and confirmed.
MrMatthowa (Treasurer) thought that before signing cheques for the present meeting the Board should appoint a Treasury, The Act made no provisions for the appointment tri-annually, and he, therefore, placed his resignation before the Board.
It was unanimously resolved that Mr Mr Matthews be re-elected Treasurer.' The Treasurer's statement was then read, showing amount to credit ordinary account £74 16s, interest account, £227 4s 9d.
Accounts amounting to £3510s 8d were passed against ordinary accounts and £6O 9s 9d interest account,
The estimate of expenditure on Country and District Roads were dealt with, and the matter of percentage to general fund was deferred,
Correspondence outwards sinoe last meeting was read.
The following correspondence inwards was then dealt with:—From Wairarapa West County, accepting advance of £2O. From C. Pharazyn Esq., asking that a bridle track be formed between Whaterangi to Te Kopi.—lt was resolved that the work be done at a cost not exceeding £3O. The Overseer was instructed to see to the Inland traot.
From D. Henderson, asking for a line of road at Moiki. The matter was differed.
From W. Burt, asking permission to draw logs across the road from Mr Yule's property. This was left in the hands of the Warden.
From W. Harrington, re clearing slips on the Mastorton Pahaoa road.—Mr Harrington was reterred to the West County Council.
Messrs Buchauan and Fuller waited on the Board in respect of preventing the damage to their properties north of Greytown by the Waiohina river. Mr Buchanan explained the proposed works, and said the river Board would contribute £lO, himself £2O, and Mr Fuller £6 and the fencing. In reply to Mr Bidwill, the cost would be about £7O.
The matter was fully discussed, and it was resolved that this Board do not undertake the work, but will contribute £lO towards the*'cost. ■
Mr Dowman mentioned the necessity of steps being taken to prevent the encroachment of the Ruamahunga river at Petherick'B bridge.
It was resolved, on the motion of Mr Elgar, that Mr King be asked to appoint a day to confer with Messrs Dowman, Tully, and the mover in respect of same. It was resolved, on the motion of Mr Matthews, that Mr Skeefc be. instructed to examine the Cross' Creek road, and report as to the' exact area of matured land, etc., required. It was resolved, on the motion-of Mr Bidwill, that it is expedient that the Stoney Creek be proceeded with,;and that the necessary memorial be sent to the Governor.
It was resolved, on the motion of Mr Matthews, that a rate Qf tjd be struck for the year ending 31st March in the Road district, and |d in the'£ in the Waiohine river district,
Messrs Monckton and Elgar were appointed to sign rate books. ' Lots were drawn for the. retiring members resulting in Messrs McDougall, Elgar, Bidwell and Tully being th'o outpoint; members at the end of the year. _ Mr Bidwell gave notice for next meet-ing-(l) That the expenses in maintaining the road one mile on each side the Ruamahunga bridge be charged to the bridge fond. (2) That the fees to wardens be discontinued.' (3) That all advertising for tenders &c, be charged to the which such works are,
Mr Elgar applied for 20 chains formation on the cross roads to Murphy's line.
