CORRESPONDENCE.

To the Editor.

Sir,—l do not know, what action the County Council are taking to secure suitable sites for the roadmen, but 1 should imagino there would bo no difficulty in the matter. Reports say that Mr Bennett has offered his cottage with sufficient ground at a most reasonable. rate, and the Council have the next most suitable place of their own—l mean the pound reserve. Nothing could be more suitable. I noticed as 1 passed that the appearance of the place 'did not reflect much credit to tho Council, And as .1 suppose by-and-by the roadman tfill have to act as ranger, would it not be wiso to put him in possession at once and save any after expense, as I presume the Council does not wish to buy or lease a place when they have one of their own. I was informed that the .next suitable place belonged to Mr Hawkins, and the'next following to Elder Bros. Well these gentlemen will, I feel sure, meet the Council. That, I think, would take us as far as Tiriui. No doubt the Chairman has marked all these positions, aa 1 believe ho is well acquainted with tho road. lam under' the impression that where the Council have suitable sites of their own thoy should use them, and not go to the expense of buying others or leasing them, I am, &c., On-looker. ■
