At the Hutt Races to-day, although it was fine weather, there was but a poor attendance. Black badges were worn by the jockeys, bookmakers, and officials, in memory of the late R. H. Vallance.

Ngatitoa scratched. Orient went away with the lead, with Freebooter lying second, and Secretary last. Orient and Freebooter maintained the same positions both jumping, beautifully. When they came to the last jump both leaders rose together, and a great race down the straight ended in favor of Freebooter by a short head, Time 4min Oeoo. Dividend £3 lis.
