MR BEETHAM'S MEETINGS.

MrG. Beetham, M.H.R. for Wairarapa North, returned on Saturday night from a lengthy visit to the various centres of population in his constituency, and only Tinui, where he proposes tdi speak tomorrow, remains to be visited. The following are reports of the various meetings:— • Pahiatua. . Mr Beetham met about sixty electors at tho schoolhouse on Wednesday. Mr Miller presided. On concluding, the only question asked waswhether Mr Beetham would see that the railing of tho Awapurua bridge was made safe. Mr Beetham replied that ho had already seen the Government on-tho subject, but would interview them again. A. voto of thanks was carried on the motion of Mr W. W. McCardlo;

Eketahuna. The electors assembled in considerable numbers in the schoolhouse, Mr Thomas Bayliss presiding. The usual vote of thanks was carried, on the mot'on of Mr Von Redcn, seconded by Mr \Y. Bayliss. AIFREDTON. On Friday Mr Beetham spoke at Mr Brannigan's, Alfredton. The meeting was not so large as the others, the population boing scattered, A vote of thanks was proposed •by Mr D. Macqurrie, seconded by Mr E. Smith, and carried unanimously.

Mauriceville, The Mauriceville meeting was hold on Saturday]night, in the schoolhouso, and was probably the largest ever held there, about 45 being present, Mr Gundersen presided. The only question of any importance that was asked at the conclusion of the speech arose out of a remark that Mr Beetham had made previous to the meeting, expressing surprise that he had not been communicated with on the question of constituting the new Road District. Mr Jessen explained that as Mr Beetham was a large landholder, and large land-holders objected to small Road Districts, they were under tho impression that he would not be inclined to assist them. To this Mr Beetham replied that the only land he- owned at present was a forty acre section at Mauriceville. The explanation created a good deal of merriment. A vote of thanks was moved by Mr Deadman, seconded by Mr H. Aulin, and carried unanimously.

Mr Beetham was well received at all the meetings. He was accompanied by Mrs Beetham throughout the journey.
