Two hoys named Joseph Dodd and Charles Styles, aged 13 and 17 years respectively, were out in a .dingy, when the boat capsized, Dodd was drowned, and Styles rescued, but by what means no information haß yet been received, Dodd's body was recovered shortly afterwards.

Mr C. C, Bowen has' received a tele pram from London to the effect that a very responsible syndicate in London will probably take up the'contract for the East and West Coast and Nelson railway in January. Enquiries have also been made in Berlin about the work.
At the instigation of the police the body nf the boy Hazelhurst was exhumed, and examined by three doctors in the presence of Inspector Pender and Mr Martin, the Crown Prosecutor, Portions of the discolored flesh were preserved for furthur examination. The doctors agreed that the discoloration was tho result of blows which caused death. Louisa Morrison was injured in a tramway accident, and died last night. Dunedin, This day.
Judge Williams presented medals and certificates of the Eoyal Humane Society of Australasia to J. C. Miller, Richard Phelan, and Wm. Potiki to-day. Miller and Phelan swam out and saved two High School bovs on an island ojf Ooeaji Beach, Win.' Potiki is a Maori, and swam in and saved Mrs Morrice at Port Molyneux, the Rev. Morrice being drowned on the same occasion, trying to. save his wife. Phelan has at different periods saved six persons from drowning, and one from a runaway horse.
