Disastrous Fire IN Wellington.

(UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION,) Wellington, this day. The mo?t disastrous fire which has occurred here since the Opera house fire, broke out this morning. The alarm was given about 7.45, when Myers' > picture frame manufacturer's shop, on Lambton .Quay, .was discovered to be on fire, but tjje or/gin of .the conflagration is unknown. The Fire ißrjMe was soon on the spot, but it appeared npb!,e to cope with the task before them, and as g, conse8' uence the fire spread rapidly to Smart's 'yster Saloon and Mrs Kelson's Fruit Shop, on either side, which wore soon levelled to the ground. The flames were still gaining on the Brigade,' and Aldous' tobacconist, Spiller's music shop, Farmers-Ipge furniture warehouse, the Wellington Meat •JSsoijjpany's butchers shop, and Mrs Paul's millinery shop jyere completely destroyed; The Are also destroyed the Stables of the Meat Company, and then extended' to Borne , cottages in a small lane funning off Wood-ward-street, and all these ,' were destroyed ; but the occupants are not yet ;kho.wn, Hayes' plumbers' shop,'Arrowsmith's ai),d the %!)ph JJotel hrd a very narrow escape. Sparks were carried a long distance away, and the Occidental Hotel,- Dr Heniy's house, and the Central Club were on fire at one time, but were saved with some difficulty. The insurances and losses are not yet/known.
