BOROUGH COUNCIL.
A special meeting of the Borough Council was held yesterday afternoon. Present—The Mayor, Crs Muir, Gapper, Bacon, Mason, Hessey, Williams and Chamberlain. With regard to Mr Carr's application to be permitted to take gravel from the site of the gas works, it was resolved, on the motion of Cr Hessey, seconded by Cr Mason, that the request be not acceded to, on the ground that the gravel will be required for streets in the immediate neighborhood, The Council then went into Committee to consider letters with regard to obtaining the gas plant. The Engineer was instructed to proceed with the neocssary preliminary wprk in connection with the Gas works, such as calling tenders for making bricks, sinking well, etc,
The report of the Engineer on the best means of obtaining a water supply (which appears elsewhere) was read, and it was resolved to consider it at the next ordinary meeting. The Counoil theu adjourned.
