(BY KLEOW.O TELEGRAPH—COPYRIGHT Reuter's Teleghajis. Paris, October 5. The result of the French general election has been a large gain to the Conservative party in the provinces. A large number of electors availed themselves of the privilege of franchise. The returns for Paris, however, are still incomplete. London, October B. The wool sales closed to-day, The total quantity sold during the series has been 300,000 bales, and 73,000 bales were held over for the next sales, which commence on the 24th January, 1886. Madeira, October 4. The N.Z. Shipping Co.'s R.M.S. Ruapeliu, from Wellington August 30th, arrived yesterday afternoon, with her froien meat cargo in good condition. Paris, October 6. The latest returns of the French elections give the number of Conservative deputies as 165, and Republicans 141, The number of ballotages for the electoral college of the Senate is very large, being fully 200.
Riots took place last night outside the publishing offices of Le Gaulois, which was illuminated in honor of the result of the elections. The police, however, soon dispersed the crow}. Sydney, this day, Mr Dlbbs has succeeded in forming a Ministry, but the actual composition is not yet disclosed. It is believed, however, that among its members are Sir Patrick Jennings, and Messrs Tnckett, Want, Abbott, Tyne, Wright, See, and Farnell.
The formal dissolution takes place today, and the new writs will be issued tomorrow.
SuiKiM, October 5. Advices are to hand from Ras Aloula, who is directing the operations of the Abyssinian bands against the rebel Arabs between Massowah and Kassala. He reports that he has fought an engagement with a large force of Hadendowas, and that he was successful in completely defeating the enemy, who suffered severe loss in killed and wounded.
