WAIRARAPA WEST COUNTY COUNCIL.
A meeting of the above was held at their chambers, Carterton, on Saturday. Present— Crs 800% (chairman), H. R, Bunny, H. Bunny, H. Braithwaite, A. Mathews, J, Martin, and J. Tully, The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed.
The Treasurer reported a credit balance of £430 8s 9d. CORRESPONDENCE.
From R, A. Wakelin, re tramway, and agreeing to pay costs of advertising the same.
From ratepayers Wainuioru district, agreeing to'the special rate to meet debentures on the Wainuioru bridge. Some correspondence outward was read from the letter book. REPORTS. The report of the Special Works Committee was read and confirmed.
The Engineer's report was received and read re the survey of the Pahaua-Flat Point road, and also in respect to several works in progress. Or Tully moved, and Cr Braithwaite seconded, That the Engineer's report bo referred to the Works Committee,— Carried. TENDERS. Tenders were opened for the following works :
Martinborough-Pahaua road, contracts 1, 2 and 3; Michael O'Loughlin's accepted at £690. Wainuioru bridge j Thomas Bennett's accepted at £B2O. Moved by Cr H. R. Bunny, aeconded by Cr H. Bunny, that the time for completing the bridge be G months from the Ist October 1885.—Carried.
Moved by Cr H, Bunny, seconded by Cr Braithwaite, that Mr Tweedale be employed as overseer to the bridge work at 10s per day.—Carried.'
The Chairman stated that tho Council would shortly receive a grant from the Government of £750, which would enable them to pay off the debt owing to the two Road Boards in respect of the Waiohine bridge, and then the Council could, if they thought fit, remove the toll-gate at the expiration of the present lease. It was resolved on the motion of the Chairman that a special rate el 3-17ths of of a penny in the pound in the Wainuioru District, to meet the debentures on the now bridge. The Chairman was authorised to sign debentures in reference thereto.
Mr R. A. Wakelin's application for permission to lay a tram along Moffat's line was granted. Cr,A. Mathews moved, and Cr H. Bunny seconded, that the Government be petitioned to declare the Wairarapa lake a public drain under Section 136 of the Public Works Act, 1882.—Carried. Moved by Cr H. Bunny, and seconded by Cr H. Braithwaite, that the members of the Works Committee be paid 10s per day when they hold special meetingsCarried.
Moved by Cr H. Bunny, seconded by Cr J. Tully, that the next meeting of the Council be held on the fourth Wednesday in November next, at the same time and place.—Carried. Accounts amounting to L 215 2s 3d were passed for payment, and the meeting terminated.
