WAIRARAPA PASTORAL ASSOCIATION.
A. special meeting of the Wairamtoand East Coast Pastoral and .Agricytural Society was held on SaturdW. Present —Messrs W. C. Buchanan (President), H. R. Bunny (Vico-President), and about fifty members from different parts of the Valley. The President opened the meeting by reading the advertisement convening it, after which he referred at Borne length to the action taken by the Farmers' Club in Mastoiton in their proposal to have the shows held m that township, and invited members present to gire the matter a full and free consideration before arrivha at any definite decision. • ft Mr H. R, Bunny, in a lengthy speeoh, moved that it would be doing a great injustice to the Lower Yalley settlers (who had so liberally assisted in forming
the Association on its present Bite) to remove the show from Carterton. He considered that it was much more convenient for exhibitors from all parts of the district than Masterton. He said further that if he was one who' lent his •assistance to tho removing of the show from its present site, he should be ashamed to look one of the Lower Valley people in the face, after the assistance they had always given to the upholding of-the show.
The motion was seconded by Mr A, Mathews, who spoke at some considejgble length, and pointed out the hardsHJfit would entail on the Lower Valley exhibitors in taking their things tho extra distance, as in Bome cases the exhibitors prefer driving their cattle, rather than risk tho knocking about they undergo, in getting them into the cattle trucks; and further, he did not consider
that the kind of sheep and cattle were, sufficiently distributed through-the wh/Qsij of the district which were it for allowpurposes, and that the Lower Valley had by far the greatest claim.
Mr W, H. Boetham next spoke, and said that he was very Borry that the Masterton people had allowed themselves to be carried away in the manner they had, as it led to a great deal of ill fueling between the different townships. He did not think it advisable to remove the show from Carterton, for the site the Masterton people had chosen for a show
ground was not at all convenient, and then there was the expense of fencing and erecting suitable buildings, and altogether
he was very much opposed to the shifting of the show from Carterton for some
considerable time. Mr W, E, Bidwill made some remarks in reference to what he was reported to have said at the last meeting ant' Messrs Beetham not being exhibitors now.
The President invited discussion before
lie put the motion to the meeting. Mr W. Booth next referred to what had been said in respect to a want of rcourtesy to the deputation, He con-i sidered this was njt the case, as there would have been a great lack of courtesy < shown by the President if he had con- •, veiled a general meeting of members from all parts of the Valley upon such an unsatisfactory recommendation as shown in the letter received from the Farmers' Club. In reference to what Mr Hawkins ■
said about some of the members getting heated over the matter, he thought no one but Mr Hawkins got anyway heated' in the discussion, Mr B. Boys next spoke, and referred to the affairs of the shows since they first' started one in the Wairarapa District, and he expressed himself very much against the show being shifted from Carterton, . The President asked if there were any more who wished to speak, and there being no response, the motion was put and i carried without a dissentient voice. -.:ym A vote of thanks to the President teF minated the meeting.
