CORRESPONDENCE.
WE ARE A BAND OF BROTHERS, [To the Editor]
Sir,—Being very much surprised at the meekness with which the school-destroy-ers received the severe castigation administered to them by "Parent No. 2," I liavo been making enquiries as to the probable cause, and I find it to be that, becoming aware they have stirred public feeling to its depths against themselves, they have resolved to offer a victim, a sacrifice, as the only hope of stilling the tempest they have raised about their ears. It would appear that the two principal conspirators, in discussing the matter, had, at first determined to make Mr Woodroofe the scape-goat, but further consideration altered this resolve, and it is now Mr Girdwood who.is to be Jonah. It was Mr Girdwood who originated the idea of dividing the district, it was he who secretly carried round the petition and surruptitioußly obtained the queer signatures; the others only knew of it when it was done, and were surprised into acquiescence with it, so it is only right that he should suffer. As a preliminary move, the second petition has been dropped, that is, it is Buffered to lie only at the 'Star' office, and at the next meeting of Committee, the petition in favor of the unity of the district will be cordially supported. Mr Reese will tell us that he was surprised into voting in favor of disruption, and is now convinced that Mr Girdwood was veiy wrong in urging it. Mr Hogg will say that, having discovered Mr Girdwood'B "tac-ticß," he entirely disapproves of them, and will lend his sanction to nothing so very improper; and Mr Woodroofe will favor us with a long and pathetic harangue on the wickedness of asking people to sign a petition, the prayer of which has been misrepresented. to them, and will hold up Mr Girdwood as an awful example of the swift retribution which overtakes people who do Buch? Thufl poor Mr Girdwood will be figuratively bound hand and foot and offered as a victim to the Chairman, and the other three will offer
their services to rend him in pieces, as punishmentforthe offence they havejoinfcly committed, Will the people be satisfied with their victim? That remains to be seen; but I think that the others besides Mr Girdwood will have to suffer for the diabolical attempt to destroy our school and injure our children's prospect of education. I am, &c., One who sees more of ihe game than THE PLATERS.
