MASTERTON-OPAKI JOCKEY CLUB.
The annual meeting of the MastertonOpaki Jockey Club was held at the Club Hotel on Saturday night. There was a large attendance of members, and great interest was taken in the proceedings.' In the absence of the President, Mr' T. E. Chamberlain was voted to the chair. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed.
The Secretary, Mr R. J. Fitton, read the balance-sheet, which was adopted on the motion of Mr Parsons, seconded by Mr Elkins. - -
The General Committeereportedthatthe construction of the new course had been left entirely in the hands of the Engineer, Mr Bremner, who had taken great interest in the matter. The contractors had faithfully earned out their work, but had been greatly taken in by the job, as there was a great deal more work than appeared from the specifications. After five months work they were £l4. in debt over it.
; Mr Parsons moved that if .the club is in funds after the March meeting, a further sum of £lO be paid to the contracture. After some discussion the motion was allowed to stand over till the next halfyearly meeting. The following officers were olected President, Mr W, Lowes; Secretary, Mr R. J. Fitton; Judge, Mr A, W. Cave; Starter, Mr T. E. Chamberlain; Handicapper, Mr H. McMaster; Clerk- of the Course, Mr W. lorns; assistant do., Mr H. Yates; Clerk of Scales, Mr J. Harding ; Stewards-Messrs J. lorns, H. Williams, T. Parsons, A, Elkins, N. Grace, E. Dixon, and B. Kimberley; Auditors, Messrs J, Payton and J. lorns. • On the motion of Mr T. H. Hill, Mr Bremner was elected a life member of the Club, and a high compliment was paid him for the services rendered by him in laying out the course. The Clerk was instructed to write to Mr Bremner, expressing the thanks of the Club for his sorvices.
It was agreed that a meeting be held a fortnight hence to consider a programme to be submitted by the Stewards. Messrs T. H. Hill, R. J. Fitton, T. E. Chamberlain, and R. Welch were appointed a Ground Committee. it was resolved that the next meeting be held on Boxing Day and the Monday following.
On the motion of Mr Parsons it was resolved that the course be ploughed and sown immediately. It was resolved that the balance-sheet be published. Messrs Parsons Muir, Hill and Chamberlain, were appointed a committee to revise the rules, a report to be brought up at the adjourned meeting. A vote of thanks was passed to the retiring officers for their services, and a special vote to the Secretary whose honorarium was increased from £3O to £SO. This concluded the business.
