The ordinary fortnightly meeting of the Borough Council was held last night. Present.—His Worship the Mayor and Councillors Perry, Williams, Chamberlain, Bacon, Muir, and Heron. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. A NUISANCE. The Inspector of Nuisances recommended that notice be given to Messrs Sutton and. Duffy to clean out the creek on their premises, with a view to the removal of a nuisance complained of by Mrs 1. McKenzie.—lt was resolvod to adopt the' report. MICHAEL DIXON-STREET. ' A lettor was received from Messrs Wrigloy and H. Croad asking that Michael Dixon-stroet be declared a public street. It was resolved that the applicants be asked to furnish a plan,of the street. FIREPLUG. Mr J. Kingdon wrote to the Council in; support of a claim for getting water in a pipe put down in Queen-street, He also attended and stated that he had put two charges of dynamite down the pipe and form a reservoir which was sufficient to supply all the water required in case of fire. • The Mayor said that he himself had moved that a bonus of £2O be given for forming the reservoir. So faras exploding the dynamite was concerned, Mr Kingdon had been at the time in the employ of the Council. The matter had really lapsed. Mr Kingdon handed in a letter from the Town Clerk, showing that he had been promised a bonus of £2O, if he got a sufficient supply which would last for three months. - Cr Bacon said Mr Kingdoi. had never received notice that the conditions had been broken. Cr Perry said he did not believe that Mr Kingdon would -ever have applied for the amount at all had it not been for the fact that the Captain of the Brigade had informed himself that there was a good supply of water. Mr Kingdon said he never wanted any profit for himself at all, There was no .doubt the Brigade had donealot of the work which he had promised to do. The Mayor said that he would have no objection to move that the sum of £2O be re-voted, provided that it could be made a success. 1 Cr Perry hoped such a resolution would not find a seconder. The Mayor said he did not move, but simply said that he would be prepared to do so if it were shown that a permanent supply had been obtained. He moved tbat the matter stand over till next meeting.l—Agreed to. CRICKET STREET, Mr E.Jones attended, and explained that in response to a petition, the Council had promised to form Cricket Street, but had never done so. He himself had formed about two chains in the worst of weather, and the excuse that had been made, that the street was too bad just now to be formed, would be found incorrect. Cr Heron said the Overseer had been requested to attend to the road as soon as he could. After a week's fine weather they might do something with it, It was understood that the street would be made aa soon possible.' WORKS COMMITTEE The report of the Works Committee which was of ah unimportant nature, was adopted. The Council then went into, Committee to consider matters connected with' the gas loan.
