PAHIATUA ROAD BOARD.
The ordinary meeting of the above was held on Saturday last. Present—Messrs Davie, (chairman), Whitcorae,' Avery, Crewe, Scdcole,,and Hall. The minutes
of the previous meeting wero read and confirmed. ;
Correspondence—Outwards, To OhiefSurveyor asking for detailsof plans of Toritea-Puketoi Road, surveyed by Mr Greville; to Commissioner of Crown Lands asking permission to cut timber for bridges, on township reserve; to Colonial Treasurer asking what moneys are to the credit of the Board in respect of deferred payment thirds, and leaseholds percentages ; to Bank N.Z., Masfcerton, re fixed deposit of £sos'; to Ngawapurua Bridge Demonstration Committee, thanking thtm for invitation; to County Council ts delegates to attend • conference; to Pro-, perfcy Tax Commissioner re station rates, 1884-5 ;■ to Minister of Public Works'with papers re purchase of two acres of land for metal pits. \ Inwards—Foom Chief Surveyor re Toritea road stating that plans were • not finished; from East. County • Council asking under what clause of the Act the Board wanted the road to be proclaimed!; from W. Rhodes re falling bush on Toritea road ; from Mr C. B. Moriaon, stating that the Board's title was ready on recceipt of £32165. Resolved.—That tenders be called at once for falling two miles of bush'one chain wide, and clearing 30ft wide, the stumps to be cut off level with the ground or grubbed up, on the Toritea-Puketoi road from theMangaramarama towards the Tiraumea river; to lie let in ; four contracts. ' . That- Mr Maiison be asked to fall 20 chains along the Toritea road, commencing at the Tiraumea' river when falling his own,''at; current rate,; and that Mr Rhodes be written to, explaining.how matters stood in regard to the survey of the road now in the hands of Mr Fraai. That Mr. Hughes be paid £3O for land, and £2 163 costs on handing over the transfer. That the County Council be written to pointing out to them that they made the roads in question with public money, and should, therefore, have "taken all necessary steps, in the proclamation of such roads, and also asking if the Beard would be justified in spending money to put them in order.
That two more forms be obtained for the use of the public, also'a chair for the Chairman. That Mr Gundry be paid £ls, being first progress payment on account of the Mangaramarama road contract. That the following accounts for wages be paid:—McMillan £7 4s; Rioux, £3 lis 9d. The Board then went into Committee to consider tenders for bridges with the following resultJ. McDonald, £196; (Accepted) Henderson £235 Is; Rioux £217 ; Nathan £209; MoLeod £209 7s 9d; Re&e £240, Mr Jordan's tender was. considered informal. It was resolved that' in all future tenders a deposit of 5 per cent on the amount of tender be lodged with the Board, to be forfeited if tho contract is not taken up. Tke meeting then adiourned.
