GREYTOWN BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The usual monthly meeting of the Greytown Borough Council was held at the Council Chambers on Monday night, Present,—His Worship the Mayor, and Crs Loasby, Maxton,- Jones," Gallagher, Cameron, and Trotter.
The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed.
Letters wore read, from the Returning Officer informing the Council of the election of Mr W. Armstrong as a Councillor; from Mr S, Haigh, stating that lie would wait upon the Council re slaughter houso licenses; and from McLean, Sons & Co. re tools and material.
Copies of the Municipal Corporations and Local Bodies Finance and Powors Bills were laid upon the table, Mr W. Armstrong hero made the usual declaration and took his seat.

After a deal of discussion, Cr Gallagher gave notice to move at the next meeting, that the resolution re slaughter houses passed on June Ist be rescinded,
On the motion of Cr Gallagher, seconded by Cr Jones, the report of the Works Committee was adopted, It showed that the Ovorseer had spent 23 days on the Papawai road, ten with a horse and cart, altogether making an outlay on this road for two months of something like £3O. It was decided that the Overseer engage a man to liolp him for about a fortnight. A petition was presented from residents on the Kurutawhiti Road, asking that the road bo metalled right through. Cr Gallagher proposed and Cr Trotter seconded that the request be acceded to, providing the contractor will do it at the present price.
On the motion of Cr Gallagher, seconded by Cr Jones, it decided to metal the north end of East-street, tenders to be invited for doing the same. The Finance Committee's report as read was adopted, showing a credit balance of £34 Is lOd, rates collected £49 'Cs Id, license fees £142, poundage fees £1 lis, dog registration £3 4s. The following accounts were passed for paymont: —Standard, £7; A. L. Webster, £29 8s lid; Wairarapa Hospital, £ll7s 6d; G. Coker, £4lss; licensing expenses, £2 8s Gd; Beard & Gray, £5 ss; J, Baillie, £7 3s 3d; J, Montgomery, £10; G, Shaw, £8; D. Cameron, £5 2s 6d. Tho Ranger's report was read and adopted. Mr D. Cameron senr, waited on the Council to state that unless the salary of Inspector of Nuisances be continued, he would be compelled to resign as Ranger. Cr Gallagher proposed, and Cr Armstrong seconded, that Mr Cameron be reappointed Inspector of Nuisances at tho original salary.—Carried. The Council then adjourned.
