Mr F. H. Wood held a very successful sale of horses at the Marquis of Normanby Hotel, Carterton, on Saturday, and prices ranged up to £6O. Afterwards he disposed of a largo number of trees and shrubs from Mr D, Barratt's Tividalo nursery, which also brought satisfactory prices.
Messrs Lowes and lorns held a most successful sale of fruit' and ornamental trees on Saturday, some 800 apple trees were sold from Is to Is 3d, other fruit trees ranged a trifle lowor. Ornamental trees all sold readily and appeared to be in demand. The firm also sold tho right of a. publicans and. refreshment booth combined, at the Ploughing match,' Mr McGlashan being the purchaser at £3, A case which is exciting considerable interest is proceeding before Mr Stratford R. M., and Mr Renail, J, P., in the Resident Magistrate's Court this afternoon. Mr J. C. McAlister, private secretary to the Minister of Education, and the Rev. Father Treacy have charged each other with using threatening language, and the former has also caused to be issued several summonses for assault, The alleged cause of action occurred on Saturday. Mr Bunny appears for the Rev father Treacy, and Mr Beard for Mr McAlister.
