CORRESPONDENCE.

To the Editor, Sir,—Your various correspondents—- " Bit o' Blue," 4c,—seem to be making quite a raid on the parsons aad their supporters because they did not support the teetotallers in the late campaign,' Kindly allow me as a teetotaller and parson-sup-porter to state the reason why we did not vote. 1 say ' we' because 1 think there are at least some others of my way of thinking. In the first place I did not consider the teetotal candidates were temperato men, but rather a lot of hobby horse riders who rant and rave as though there was nothing in the world right but teetotallers and teetotallsm, I think men whose cause is right can generally afford to use their reason in advocating their cause, and I think there are in Masterton teetotallers who by popular consent may be called reasonable men and if the 6. T.'s had brought some of these forward they would not havo got the thrashing they so well deserved. My opinion is that teetotal and temperance societies are necessary to counteract the evils of the drink traffic, but to be successful we must use the same reason and judgment that makes men successful in other walks of life and then we shall get the support of all—truo men-parsons and church-goers included. Yours, &c, "D." [This correspondence must now close as far as our columns are concerned Ed, W.D.]
