NEW ZEALAND VOLUNTEERS FOR THE SOUDAN.

Auckland, Feb, 23, Mr A, D, Berynct to-day, in company with the Mayor, waited upon Sir Julius Vogel, and represented to him that he had been solicited by a large number of men who have had military experience to raise a corps for service in the Soudan, He was prepared to form such a corps at once, if tho proposal should meet with the approval of the Government, The Oplfinial Treasurer replied that several applications had come in from various parts of tho colony., flj-cy wquld come up for consideration at the Cabinet meeting this week, Mr Bennett might submit his offer formally, Acting upon these suggestions, the following telegram was despatched to the Hon. tho Defenoe Minister, Wellington;—" I have the honor to offer to raise for service abroad to the Imperial Government," through the the New Zealand Government, free, a volrmteei' nayal contingent of 300 men, composed pf ex.-nayal men, Aimed Constabulary, and ex-volunteers, all hardy and experienced men; each company' jjf 100 men under a lieutenant who has pre: vioualy seen sgryice; such men to be raised in the provlnplal district of Auckland within six woeks; and, as a guarantee, to start a subscription with #2s.tt Arthur Bennett, late captain naval contingent on service." Timaru Feb, 23, Since the offer was raado by Captain Hamersley for service in the Soudan, he has received an offer from nearly every man who went to Parihaka with him. The volunteers here are veiy anxious to hoar tho result of the decision of the Government on the matter, and trust that in any case the Imperial Government will be communicated with.
